Mixed Up Monday: Peaches

Peach is one of Spring's freshest colors.   I'm waiting for it to make a big comeback.  Peach and seafoam were pretty popular in the 80's and also the art deco era.  It'll be anytime now!

What you'll need:

gloves

wool: fiber or yarn

acid: citric or vinegar

acid dyes: magenta and yellow.  Optional black, brown, and turquoise.  (link for dye making stocks)

dye pot: stainless steel or crock pot
measuring spoons

I'm using 1 oz bundles of mixed breed wool combed top.

Gather your wool and soak in some room temp tap water until saturated.

Add about 1/2 tsp of citric acid (or 2 tsp vinegar) to a dye pot with a few inches of water.  There should be enough water to completely submerge your fiber.

Add 1/4 tsp of Magenta Dye stock.

Then add 1/4 tsp of yellow dye stock.

Add your wool making sure it is completely submerged.

Turn heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes.  

Water will be clear when done.

Let cool.

Prepare your rinse baths.  One with a few drops of textile detergent or Blue Dawn, and one plain water.  Dip your wool and soak for a few minutes in each.

Hang or dry flat.

Pretty as a peach!

Variations:

Adding brown (1/8 tsp) warms it up a bit.

Just a few drops of Black will bring it to a dusty rose color.

If you add 1/8 tsp of Turquoise dye stock will soften it and bring out more pink.
